The Best Playgrounds in Aintree
Aintree, which is a new suburb in the north west of Melbourne, has the highest density of great playgrounds anywhere in Melbourne. There are many spectacular playgrounds within walking distance of each other.
Our top Aintree playgrounds are:
Bullion Park Playground
Address: Cnr Woodlea Boulevard and Quarry Road, Aintree
Towering above the playground is a huge twisting tunnel slide. Kids were being spat out the bottom of the slide exclaiming "that's awesome". Beside the slide is a big sandpit surrounded by rocks and covered by a shade sail which has plenty of play opportunities such as a digger, rock tables, little jetty and slide plus pulleys for hauling up sand in buckets. This is fringed by a climbing area with piled up logs and rope traverse plus an area of soft mounds with two tunnels running underneath and two in-ground trampolines. There are also swings and flying foxes.
For the sports enthusiasts there is a table tennis table, basketball court, outdoor gym and a reasonable sized grassy oval with football posts at one end. There are picnic facilities and a cafe with toilets across the road.
Frontier Park Playground
Address: Cnr Woodlea Boulevard and Frontier Avenue,
One of the most spectacular playgrounds in Melbourne with huge slides connected by a scary rope tunnel bridge, a range of fun and engaging areas, water play area, basketball court and small skate park. There are picnic facilities and toilets.
Arbourton Park Playground
Address: Cnr Muster Drive and Arbourton Avenue, Aintree
A fun playground which is dominated by a huge bug like creature. To get into the innards of this bug either climb a high ladder or up a rope tunnel. To get out and down, head for the sloping rubber mat slide. The playground also has lots of climbing opportunities.
There are plenty of picnic facilities, small outdoor gym and a grassy area with soccer goals.
Nugget Park Playground
Address: 5 Nugget Place, Aintree
A high, steep tunnel slide characteristic of the area complimented by an extensive play structure and lots of swings. There is a court with netball ring and basketball ring, small outdoor gym, grassy area with two metal soccer goals and picnic facilities.
Jackwood Park Playground
Address: Cnr Pioneer Drive and Jackwood Grove, Aintree
Another spectacular playground with the highlight being a tower with two high twisting tunnel slides which are reached by a rope ladder. There is no easy way up to these slides and you need to earn the right to come down them. Also a big wall with climbing holds to traverse across, large sandpit and a water pump next to the sandpit.
There is a concrete path around the playground area with some fun sections for bikes or skateboards with one area having banked sides and another section having waves. Picnic facilities, grassy area and an outdoor gym.
Aintree Reserve Playground, Aintree Boulevard, Aintree
Address: 25 Aintree Boulevard, Aintree
There is a four level viewing tower, massive elevated obstacle course, lots of swings, sandpit with plenty of sand play equipment, water play area, flying foxes, lots of climbing opportunities, in-ground trampolines, huge jumping pillow under a shade sail, picnic facilities, toilets and a cafe. That's ticking a lot of boxes. Just one negative - they forgot to attach a slide to that viewing tower!
