Guide to Ghost Tours and Paranormal Investigations in Victoria

Some of the most haunted places in Victoria where tours and investigations are held include the Mayday Hill Lunatic Asylum in Beechworth where around 9,000 souls died, Old Geelong Goal which opened in 1863 as a convict prison, Aradale Lunatic Asylum in Ararat where more than 13,000 people died, Old Castlemaine Gaol with the restless spirits of ten prisoners who were buried upright within the prison walls, Blackwood Hotel which has at least three ghosts, an old miner, a caretaker and a lady called Laura Daulton who burnt to death in a 1940's kitchen fire. Staff have reported the smell of burning clothes and candle wax, a sign of Laura's ghost and Old Ballarat Gaol where seven people remain buried inside the walls of the gaol, their bodies having been placed upright and facing the east so they may never see the sunset.
In the Melbourne area haunted places include Altona Homestead where a homeless man was found murdered at the homestead and still haunts it while the original owners of the homestead brought the body of their deceased daughter who had died from diphtheria in 1854 from England, Point Cook Homestead with the spirits of many restless souls including shipwreck victims on a nearby beach and Pentridge Gaol home to infamous criminals with 44 bodies buried on on-site (sleepovers are possible).
