Yarra Valley Gateway Estate U-Pick (Coldstream)
Yarra Valley Gateway Estate have strawberries available for U-pick.
Gateways U-pick strawberries are all grown indoors out of the cold and rain, so there's no need to put on your gumboots and old farm clothes to pick them.
Our strawberries are grown using minimal sprays and chemicals, we actually buy good bugs to control the bad ones, doing this helps us to maintain a healthy balanced environment.
The freshest, tastiest strawberries are the ones you pick yourself, come along and taste the difference.
We are endeavouring to grow U-Pick strawberries all year round, however there may be slow times and times when we get picked out.
Cafe - With the shopping done, relax for a while over a bite to eat in our cafe which specialises in outrageously good home-cooking, with everything made here in Gateway's kitchen. Sip on a well-deserved coffee or linger over one of our fragrant teas as you indulge in a slice of decadent cake.
Karen's home-made soup and legendary beef sausage rolls (made from our own farm raised beef) are a winter 'must have' and our cakes, scones and biscuits are a favourite whatever the weather.

Review:
An easy way to enjoy the activity of picking your own strawberries without having to worry about the weather. There is also the spectacle of the "Big Strawberry" sitting on the roof.
It is requested that pickers do not eat any strawberries prior to payment and in any case, it is recommended to wash the strawberries prior to eating.
Before picking the strawberries, you see the counter staff and collect a punnet and scissors. Advice when selecting fruit to pick is "The Redder the Better, do not pick green fruit".
As you wander around there are some information boards with strawberry facts such as:
- Strawberries are an unusual fruit. Most fruit have the seeds inside them but strawberries have the seeds on the outside.
- Strawberries start as a yellow and white flower before setting into a small green fruit. About four weeks later they become a ripe, red strawberry.
