Yarra Bank Reserve Playground, Denham Street, Hawthorn
The quirky playground has a lovely setting next to the Yarra River. The Yarra River and rowing go together and there is an interactive play sculpture which celebrates the vibrant community rowing culture at Yarra Bank. It consists of an upside down metal rowing boat with some levers to row the boat. Unfortunately for all your hard work the boat doesn't move.
There are steps and a nobbly soft surface leading up to a small mound slide. There's also vertical wooden musical instruments, spiders web climbing frame, rope traverse, wooden canoe, swings under shade sails and a shaded water play area with a pump which pumps water along a wandering channel.
A shelter with two tables, BBQ, one unshaded table, water tap and grassy play area. The play area is not completely fenced from the river but some protective fencing is installed. There are toilets quite close by.
Check out the scarred tree nearby from which bark was removed by Aborigines for a canoe.
