Wulgulmerang East - Little River Falls
The falls is composed of two areas. Right next to the picnic area are some small falls in the form of cascades. There are lots of cascades when the water is running. Although you can see the falls from the road you will need to do a little bit if rock hopping to get close to them.
Some people think that this is the main falls. However, there is a short walk to the most spectacular part of the falls.
To start the walk you will need to walk back along the road and across the bridge. Once you cross the bridge you will see another sign and a path to your left. There is a 400m walking path, with a short steep set of stairs, to the top of the falls with a viewing platform. From here you can see the big drop of the falls from a distance.
There are some picnic tables.
You have to drive for about 5km on a rough road, so it is better to have a 4WD, although you can go in a 2WD car.
Getting there:
Little River Falls is approximately 60km north of Buchan. Take Gelantipy Road from Buchan, then proceed along McKillops Road to the falls (which are 200m past Milky Creek Track).
While you are in the area, go to Little River Gorge lookout which is about 2.5km further along McKillops Road. This is the deepest gorge in Victoria. It has taken millions of years for the Little River to create it by eroding away hundreds of metres of rocks. The gorge is 4km long and up to 500 metres deep. Wulgulmerang Creek plunges 300m from its partially hidden chasm in the gorge wall opposite the lookout.
