Lohse Street Reserve Playground, Woods Street, Laverton
Colourful structure with metal slide, steps, abacus, walkway, binoculars, shop front, ladder with square rungs, chain bridge, balance beam, hanging steps and horizontal bars. Two springers and swings. Smallish grassy area near a shopping area. BBQ (not working for a long time) and toilets. Unshaded table and seats.
The reserve had been plagued by vandalism, graffiti, assaults, drug use and alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour. As part of the state government's community crime prevention program, the area was redesigned to make it inviting and safe for families.
The upgraded reserve has a picnic shelter, children's garden, new lighting and pathways, drinking fountain and nearby toilet block. New landscaping opens the park up to the northern plaza of Laverton train station and the Woods Street arts space and shopping precinct.
