Wonga Park Reserve Playground, Old Yarra Road, Wonga Park
A real fun playground for younger kids tucked away in the bush with a fantastic 'Grandma's' cubby. The playground theme is based on the book, "My Grandma Lived in Gooligulch". This is the story of a very unusual Grandma who rides kangaroos, has emus to tea, flies in a pelican's beak and has a wombat as a best friend.
Grandma lived in Gooligulch, Near Bandywallop East.
A fair way north of Murrumbum, (Five hundred miles at least)...
A little west of Lawson's Rest
and south of Johnson's Gap
But nowhere much near anywhere
that shows up on a map.
The big crooked house is set at all angles with a goanna slide, chimney tunnel and small wide slide.
But then a frill-necked lizard
Gave one ancient bird a scare,
And the dinner guests all panicked,
Running madly here and there.
Upon a hillside, ringed with trees, Her rambling 'mansion' stood - A jumbled maze of tin and canvas, Bits of string and wood.
There are some cute kangaroo swings, standard swings, kangaroo springers, Nessie springer and big drum.
Shaded table. There is an oval 100m away and a large basketball/netball area nearby. Down the hill at the bottom of the courts is a long ramp with a series of walkways.
The playground was opened in 1998 and was beautifully restored in 2021.
Wonga Park Reserve comprises 7.7 hectares of open space and caters to cricket, netball, tennis, walking and BMX. The reserve is a dog off leash area.
The reserve is home to Wonga Park Cricket Club, Wonga Park Netball Club, Wonga Park Tennis Club and Wonga Park Wizards Junior Football Club (soccer).
There is another playground in the reserve.
