History of Cottage
This house was built around 1950 by Alan Bickford for his family, on their orchard property. In 1978 the Lilydale Council purchased the cottage and some of the land to form part of the Wonga Park Reserve.
The building is a simple gabled cottage with a skillion section at the rear and a corrugated iron roof. There are two precast concrete component chimneys on one side, each with a rubble stone base. The chimneys are unique in the Manningham municipality.
The building has been used as a community cottage for Wonga Park since 1980 and has become a social landmark and centre for community activities. The cottage represents the orcharding way of life for this period in Wonga Park.
