Woodend - Wombat State Forest Mountain Bike Trails
There is 17km of well signposted and well maintained trails with nice flow. The level is intermediate with constant changes of elevation and no black areas. The trail consist of two loops that can be linked together - loop 1 is approximately 11km and loop 2 is approximately an additional 6km.
The first trail out at the Wombat State Forest has been around since the mid 90's when mountain biking was just starting up. It is a track perfectly suitable for beginners and a real challenge for more advanced riders when the speed gets turned up. Built by locals, this 17km loop twists its way through the bush following old kangaroo and wombat trails.
Located between Woodend and Daylseford, you can reach the Wombat Forest trails by self-driving, or simply catch the V-Line train to Woodend and cycle to the trailhead.
If you don't own a mountain bike or are worried about getting lost on the trails, then you can join an organised bike tour, where you'll be picked up from Melbourne or the Woodend Train Station. Everything from bikes (if needed), helmets, water, spares and a guide are included.
