Waterford Valley Golf Course (Knoxfield)
Since opening in 2006 Waterford Valley has steadily gained a reputation as a modern, high quality golf experience. Whilst the course could be regarded as long and quite challenging, especially when compared to other public access courses, it remains enjoyable to play.
The fairways present wide targets, the greens hold approach shots well and water which is present on around half the holes, does not intimidate the golfer. It does however add interest and defines strategy. To describe the course as reminiscent of a modern resort layout without high density housing is a fair perspective. It is gently undulating, can be walked without calling on great endurance but also presents a number of golf carts, giving golfers the choice of a more relaxing game.
Situated to the east of Melbourne, in the outer suburbs, the course is very popular with interstate and overseas tourists wishing to enjoy a high value game of golf in a quiet, uniquely Australian environment amidst native trees, with lots of birdlife and scenery of the Dandenong Ranges.
The Course - Waterford Valley is a par 72, 6545 m unique championship golf course which has been designed with flexibility in its layout. It provides a wide range of golfing challenges, as it can be set up to play from 5600 m to 6545 m, depending on who's playing and the direction of the prevailing winds.
Being only 30 minutes from the CBD, the venue provides an efficient and enjoyable corporate environment. Melbourne's newest championship golf course has been designed with corporate golf in mind whereby it is a serious challenge for lower markers and plays friendly for social golfers.
The undulating fairways of Santa Ana Couch which are fully irrigated, provide wide landing zones so the golfer can "have a go" off the tee, however in doing so would need to negotiate the 63 bunkers and 11 lakes and wetlands. There are 4 varying degrees of difficulty which are depicted by the various colour tees and depending on the prevailing winds the bailout options are designed to provide the not too proud golfer an easy way home.
The 63 bunkers are huge in size and are strategically placed. The "Bent G2" grass greens are bigger than traditional golf course greens and they provide the golfer with an opportunity to get home in regulation, however long well thought out putts are then often required.
Facilities - Waterford Valley Golf is a first class golf course with first class facilities. The venue has a large pro shop and a comfortable club lounge to welcome guests and enjoy after golf drinks. The Golf Operation Centre provides easy access for all golfers to arrange their golf, purchase balls, tees, gloves, shirts, hats, pants, wet weather gear. Mens and Ladies change rooms with showers are available.
The Function Areas provide alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, bottled water, delicious food on the run, and a relaxing environment to eat with table service, inside or out. There is an outdoor area, with great views over the 18th island green and the Dandenong Ranges.
Club Lounge and Bar consists of a reception and cocktail area to be used prior to functions which includes leather couches and a cosy fireplace.
