Waterfield Park Trail (Cairnlea)
The 2.6km Waterfield Park trail will take you through Cairnlea, one of Brimbank's newest suburbs where you will be able to see an abundance of animals including ducks, swans, frogs and if you're lucky, even native fish.
The Lakes play an important role in improving storm water quality before it reaches our rivers, creeks and streams. This walk is sure to be popular with children as it has many playgrounds, large windmills and facilities to keep them entertained.
This walk is ideal for prams and wheelchairs as it is level and has wide concrete paths in excellent condition.
The walk can start at a number of places. We started at the intersection of Furlong Road and Waterview Drive, Cairnlea.
The first half of the walk basically keeps Waterview Drive on your left - the path follows the east side of Lake Chamoun, curves around past more wetlands, crosses Lakewood Boulevard where there is a large windmill, passes two more lakes and reaches Waterfield Park which has a playground, extensive outdoor gym and picnic facilities including tables, BBQs, water tap and bin.
From here follow the track in the grassy area with a line of trees between Clare Brennan Drive and Lakewood Boulevard past a full-size basketball court with unshaded table and bin until you reach Carmody Drive. This is the return point.
Now you follow Lakewood Boulevard as it runs along the east side of two lakes and pass a shelter with tables and BBQ. When Lakewood Boulevard joins Waterview Drive, turn left and after about 200m (past a pond and wooden bridge), the track splits. Take the left branch which goes along the west side of Lake Chamoun and passes another windmill. Near the end of the walk is a playground, bridge out to an island with a pergola, unshaded seats, BBQs and water tap.
