Victorian State Youth Brass Band (Melbourne)
The Victorian State Youth Brass Band are a group of youths with a strong passion for music.
The Victorian State Youth Brass Band began in late 1978 as an initiative of the youth development program of the Victorian Bands' League. It offers a forum to develop the skills and further the experience of talented young musicians.
The band currently has over 50 members enrolled, ranging in age from 9+ years and representing some 25 different bands throughout the state. These young people come from many varied backgrounds and localities, drawn together by their love of brass music and their commitment to excellence in performance.
In addition to the requirements of their individual bands' demands on their time, our members travel many kilometres each month to attend state youth brass band rehearsals where they receive specialist training in all facets of brass band technique and style.
Each summer the band conducts a music camp for intensive training, The band is self-funding, and all costs of camp/tours are born by the members and their families. In past years, the band has toured Europe, New Zealand, Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victorian country areas.
