Truganina Coastal Parklands (Altona Meadows)
Truganina Coastal Parklands is home to the well-known 100 Steps of Federation, a stone staircase made of basalt rock recycled from when the area was a clean-fill tip. The steps lead to the highest land point between Melbourne and the You Yangs mountain ranges where you can take in sweeping panoramic views of Melbourne City, Port Phillip Bay and the adjoining Cheetham Wetlands on a clear day. At the top of the stairs is the sculpture 'Time Beacon' by artist Cameron Robbins.
Visitors to the 25 hectare parklands will enjoy shared bike and walking trails, sheltered barbecue areas, on-lead dog walking, large open spaces, wooded areas and unique views. Toilets are located close to Queen Street. Follow the road from the car park to the toilets.
The Truganina Coastal Parklands connect with the Coastal Bay Trail via a crossing at Laverton Creek.
The park's wetlands are a thriving habitat for birds and wildlife and you'll often see water birds flying and hear frogs croaking.
There is no playground at the park but there are lots of grassy areas for play - BYO frisbee, kite, ball or other sporting equipment. There are also areas for bike riding.
There is free car parking at the southern end of Andrew Park Drive.
Truganina Coastal Parklands is located along the Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail.
