Treetops Adventure (Belgrave)

Treetops Adventure (Belgrave)

Treetops Adventure is an exhilarating eco-adventure in the Dandenongs. It comprises five tree-top obstacle and flying fox courses that weave through the sublime canopy of Glen Harrow heritage gardens.

Soar through the forest on an array of flying foxes and take on a series of thrilling challenges. Adventurers move between platforms between 2 and 12 metres in height, across a series of imaginative obstacles. There are easy courses for those scared of heights to 'black runs' for thrill seekers. Each participant will be fully equipped and trained. The obstacle course provides an opportunity to be daring but also requires participants to take responsibility in a controlled environment, which builds capability and ultimately self-confidence.

Review:

Access to the site is up a steep gravel path and parking is quite limited and tight. Be prepared for an adventure before you even see a rope in a tree!

The toilets are located in the car park area which is well away from the main reception area so it is advisable to spend a penny before you are start your tree adventure.

People of different abilities are well catered for and there are a range of different courses suited to those of different ages, heights, abilities and confidence. In total there are 66 challenges and 18 flying foxes. Individual courses range from Butterfly Attack with eight challenges and one flying fox to Oh la la with 16 challenges and four flying foxes.

Everyone gets a harness which has two clips and a slide bar for the flying foxes. You can always have one clip safely connected at all times. There is practice area (on the ground) where an instructor takes you through the techniques involved in traversing through the trees and sliding on the flying foxes. Overall there is an expectation that participants take responsibility for themselves and there is very little "mothering" to help people who are lacking in confidence or unsure of themselves.

The courses are set in a lovely natural environment. At the centre of the courses is a huge tree where a number of courses diverge in different directions. There is a very good range of obstacles including suspended logs, wooden cylinder, see-saw, nets, balance beam, log bridge, wires, hoops, suspended disks, upright pole and the flying foxes. In general the flying foxes have a gradual descent rather than a very fast descent. Some of the obstacles pass through the canopy of the trees.

There are a number of tents with a table for resting in or for people who are observing. For spectators the terrain is quite steep and can be wet and slippery. If you are determined to walk around underneath the obstacles then be prepared for a possible leech.

No food is sold on-site and bring your own snacks to keep the energy levels up. The courses can be very tiring to negotiate and you will probably go home both exhilarated and exhausted.
