Thompsons Beach Playground, Thompsons Beach Road, Cobram
The playground is run of the mill but the location is wonderful amongst the tall gum trees on the banks of the Murray River near a sandy beach on the curve of the river.
The playground has a wave slide, curved climber with rectangular steps, fireman's pole, telescope, chain bridge, flying fox and chain traverse.
There is a shelter with three tables and four BBQs, a number of unshaded tables, cafe, toilets, some grassy areas dotted with trees and tree stump sculpture of a Murray Cod (by Mark Rosenbrock). On the other side of the cafe is a shelter with table and BBQ plus unshaded tables.
Paddleboat cruises depart from here (contact Cobra Paddleboat Cruises on 0457 033 217).
Swimming
There is a lovely beach here which was voted as the #12 Best Australian Beach in 2022. Beware of currents in the river but the Tourist Information Centre advised that the currents are on the far side of the river and swimming is fine if some care is shown.
There are many beautiful river beaches from the Victorian side of the Murray in this area. See this list of popular beaches.
