The Top Family Activities and Playgrounds in the Surf Coast Shire Region
The Surf Coast region is about two hours drive south-west of Melbourne and includes the towns of Aireys Inlet, Anglesea, Jan Juc, Lorne, Moriac, Torquay and Winchelsea.
The region borders the magnificent surf coast and inland there are some nice waterfalls including Erskine Falls, Sheoak Falls,Lower Kalimna Falls and Upper Kalimna Falls and Won Wondah Falls and Henderson Falls.
Chocolates, ice-cream and surf coast are a match made in heaven at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery.
After a chocolate high, get an adrenaline high at Live Wire Park which has a tree-top zipline, canopy circuit and high ropes obstacle course.
There are plenty of surf schools along the coast and the Australian National Surfing Museum celebrates the story of surfing.

The best playgrounds in this region are:
Coogoorah Park Playground, Anglesea
Can you find the treasure chest in the sand beside the shipwreck Inverlochy? The wreck is composed of the bow with a wave slide, fireman's pole, ladder, climbing walls which slope outwards for a overhanging climbing experience, chain ladder and cubby area underneath. The stern part has a wave slide, rope ladder, balance beam and steps. There is also crows nest in the middle. The whole area is set in a sea of sand and also includes swings, springer and mechanical digger. Beware of the sharks which patrol the sandy area.
There are shelters with table and BBQ, unshaded tables, BBQ, unshaded seats and toilets. There is a more modern plastic structure about 50m away with a curved slide, straight slide, inclined walkway, binoculars and abacus. The playground is located next to a wetlands area and trails and bridges lead to this area.
Bob Pettit Reserve Playground, Jan Juc
Lovely playground with a sensory garden and two structures based around ramps. The largest structure has a long ramp with two good wave slides, monkey bars, clanger to hot against pipes, ladders, steps, two high scrambling walls, high fireman's pole and rope ladder. The smaller, lower structure has lots of little levels, wave slide, walkways, little rope ladder, steps, spiral ladder, tunnel, cubby area underneath, speak and listen system and steering wheel. Four swings and a hammock.
Shelter with BBQ, water tap and unshaded tables. Toilets, basketball court and a small Skate Park. There are lots of panels and mosaic art work scattered about the area. Grassy areas.
Torquay Play Space, Torquay
Huge Play Space which has a sand base and lots of elevated walkways with ramps, ladders, slides, fireman's pole, climbing wall, rope ladder and spiral ladder. In the middle are a series of wooden piers and swings. On one side is an area with mechanical diggers and a springer. There is a large wooden structure which represents part of a ship with climbing wall side, fireman's pole, rope climbing net and a big wave slide. Next to this is a lower wooden structure with slide, inclined walkway, climbing net and steps.
There is a Liberty swing, BBQs, shelters, shaded and unshaded tables and seats and toilets. There are plenty of trees to climb. The playground covers a large area and since all areas are not fenced, some vigilance is required. Limited grassy area. It is a short walk down to the beach.
Newling Reserve Playground, Moriac
A lovely playground with all abilities access to the equipment via soft paths. There is an extensive wooden structure with dual wave slides, climbing wall, ladders, fireman's pole, disks on a vertical pole, flying fox, hanging disk traverse, panels, rope spiders web climbing frame, tic-tac-toe, monkey bars, shop front, steering wheel panel, walkway, tunnel, small steep wave slide, little climbing wall and steps. Also a kangaroo springer, clock and four swings.
Shelter with tables and BBQ, unshaded table, basketball / netball court, water tap, grassy area, Skate park, BMX Track and lovely wooden sculptures (some are seats). Toilets at the nearby Community Centre.
There are eight skateparks across the region. The best skate parks in the region are:
Lorne Skatepark (A nice park with lots of different banks and quarters in the street section. Includes a funbox with euro and ledge. There is also a kidney shaped bowl with good coping and trannies)
Torquay Skatepark (A combination bowl and street course. The twin bowls (1.0m and 1.5m) are located at one end and have a rollover and spine. Standard street section with banks, funbox, ledges, big bermed corner, rails and quarters. Great fun)
Other skate parks in the region are at Anglesea, Deans Marsh, Moriac, Aireys Inlet, Winchelsea and Jan Juc.
The best BMX track in the region is Moriac BMX Track (Located in Newling Reserve next to a skate park and playground. A fairly flat inner oval with about five jumps and on the outside is an L-shape with some bigger jumps).
