The Top Family Activities and Playgrounds in the Corangamite Shire Region
The Corangamite Shire region is about two and a half hours drive west of Melbourne and includes the towns of Camperdown, Cobden, Lismore, Port Campbell, Princetown, Simpson, Skipton, Terang and Timboon.
The Port Campbell National Park is a world famous highlight with its extraordinary collection of wave-sculpted rock formations including the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge, Gibson Steps, The Grotto and The Arch.

The best playgrounds in this region are:
Apex Park Playground, Manifold Street, Camperdown
A very nice play space which has a number of play areas which are spread out. At one end a concrete path leads up a hillock to the start of metal tunnel slide. On the side of the path is a metal drum and a scrambling wall with cute orange frog handholds. At the base of the hill is a stand-on spinner, birds nest swing, four standard swings (including one with a harness) and a fun inverted U-shaped see-saw. This area has a shelter with table and unshaded BBQs.
There is a basketball court, cricket nets and some exercise equipment (sit-up bench, aerobic cycle, body twist, body pull and push-ups) at this end also.
In the middle part of the playground, next to the Camperdown Community House, is an area enclosed by a fence which has a large sandpit partly covered with shade sails with a digger and sand play tables. This fenced area also has a bike springer, little swing for toddlers, lotus leaf spinner with hand wheel and a wooden cubby with abacus. Near this is a shelter with table and a sheltered BBQ.
At the other end are two flying foxes (one with harness and one with disk seat) and a rope climbing net to resemble the mast of a ship. Beware of the crocodile lolling about below (especially if your name is Peter Pan). Around the net are logs and rocks plus a distorting mirror. Two unshaded tables are in this area which is encircled by paths.
There are toilets, water tap, fairly limited grassy area, bocce court (BYO balls), a lovely "Birds of the Plains" painting on the side of the toilets and animal and bird tracks embedded into the paths.
The spread-out nature of the playground and the close proximity to the busy highway means you need to be vigilant.
Jubilee Park Playground, Skipton
A fenced playground with one gap for entry which holds an extensive play structure decorated with pictures made by local kids. A ramp leads to the highest level with a curved slide, small slide, tunnel, colourful tic-tac-toe, various panels, shop fronts, hanging rubber covered chain traverse, horizontal bar, flying fox (broken), block steps, chain bridge, hanging disk traverse, circle of monkey rungs, balance beam with obstacles, big double sided climbing wall, climber bridge with circles, fireman's pole, honeycomb mat bridge, disks on a vertical pole and another wave slide. Three swings (including one with a harness), stand-on spinner, frog sculpture, platypus springer and two lovely wooden seats.
Outside the fenced area are toilets, four tennis courts, shelter with BBQ and two unshaded tables. There is an information board with a map of four walks ranging from the 800m Jubilee Park Lake walk, the Skipton Common and Creek Walk (1 km), the Historical Walk (1.2 km) to the Town Trail Circuit (3.5 km).
Terang Play Space, Princes Highway, Terang
The playground has a couple of sections with a shelter in the middle with three tables and BBQs.
One section has a structure with low wave slide, steps, binoculars, walkway, shop front and clanger to hit against pipes. Two cute woolly sheep springers, beautiful tractor, digger for digging woodchips and swings under shade sails (one with harness).
On the other side is a traversing structure with a wave slide, climbing wall, little individual walkway, curved climber with half circles, monkey bars, stepping stones, fireman's pole and some rope nets to climb on. A big half dome climbing frame with rope nets and climbing walls, birds nest swing and stand-on spinner.
Above a steep slope is a wooden U-shaped walkway with a telescope to see the commanding views over the Terang Bowling, Croquet and Cricket grounds. Unshaded seat.
The best skate park in this region is:
Camperdown Skatepark (There is a new park built beside the old park which has a mini with a spine. The new park is large with a good amount of different elements including a 1.5m open bowl with half pipe and roll-in. The new area has good transitions but a number of lines lead to areas off the concrete)
There are also good skate parks at Cobden Skatepark and Terang Skatepark in addition to Timboon Skatepark, Port Campbell Skatepark and Simpson Skatepark.
