    The Top Family Activities and Playgrounds in the Campaspe Shire Region



    The Campaspe Shire region is located two and a half hours drive north of Melbourne and includes the main towns of Echuca (Moama is across the Murray River in NSW), Kyabram and Rochester. Other towns include Colbinabbin, Lockington, Stanhope and Tongala.

    The Port of Echuca Discovery Centre has historical exhibits at an old river port with Murray River Paddlesteamer Cruises. Don't sail past The Great Aussie Beer Shed which is a brewery related and Australiana museum without stopping here or at the National Holden Motor Museum. For the more active Billabong Ranch Adventure Park near Echuca has lots of activities, rides and games for the whole family or get in touch with your inner scientist and have fun playing science at TwistED Science where you can even try an edible insect.

    If wildlife and nature is more your interest, Kyabram Fauna Park has a large collection of Australian fauna, Lower Goulburn National Park has camping and river based activities or walk to the pinnacle of Mount Terrick Terrick at Terrick Terrick National Park.

    The best playground in the Campaspe Shire region is

    Large grassy area with a playground at each end. At the southern end are dual slides, climbing structure composed of horizontal and vertical rings, large curved ladder and a climbing wall. Octahedral shaped rope climbing frame, stand-on spinner, skateboard springer and swings. These are all set on a nice spongy base. BBQs under a large shelter and unshaded tables and seats.

    At the other end is a structure under a shelter with curved slide, walkway, tunnel, climbing wall, steps, fireman's pole, tit-tac-toe, shop front, ladder, big clock, abacus, steering wheel and alphabet panel on a soft base.

    There are BBQs under shelters, shaded and unshaded tables and toilets.

    There is a better playground across the Murray River from Echuca at Moama.

    Huge wooden adventure playground with the usual assortment of play equipment - plenty of ramps, ladders, various walkways, tunnel slides, monkey bars, monkey rung, flying fox, various swings, climbing walls, lookouts and balance beams.

    Two huge shelters with plenty of tables, unshaded and shaded seats and tables, water tap, toilets and BBQs. Liberty swings.

    Located next to the Moama Sports Club, just across the Murray River bridge from Echuca. The Sports Club was very busy but we found the meals almost inedible but the kids liked it because of the free ice-cream with the kids meal and free video games.

    The best skate park in this region is:

    Rochester Skatepark (A concrete park with a bowl and a street course. Leading up to the main part of the skate park is a path with a block and a rail. The 4 ft bowl is open at one end and has an extension. The street course has a quarter pipe, funbox, banks, euro gap and rails)

    There are other skate parks at Kyabram Skatepark, Rushworth Skatepark and Tongala Skatepark.
