The Old Cheese Factory Playground, Homestead Road, Berwick
The previous playground with a lovely old wooden play structure has been replaced with a nice new playground with a farmyard theme. Maybe a case of woodworm or cheese weevil attack?
Throughout the playground there are black and white cows chowing down on the perimeter grass, two cute sheep springers and an even cuter sheep dog springer with pink tongue hanging out, a nice tractor with steering wheel panel, a fun cone which spins around (with the input from a strong parent or group of kids), birds nest swing and two other swings (one without a safety chain and the other with a harness seat).
A cheese shop and bakery command the centre of the playground and has multiple levels leading to a curved slide and an Old Cheese Factory maze panel.
The main play structure has dual wave slides, two different climbing walls, vertical net tunnel ladder, high fireman's pole, steering wheel, hanging rope net traverse, inclined net bridge, walkways, clock panel (make sure you aren't late to milk the cows), disk step bridges, steering wheels, small wave slide, ramp access, monkey bars and stepping stones made from (inedible) blocks of cheese.
There is also a windmill perched on a hillock which overlooks the playground.
There is a lovely Secret Garden (it's a secret so I can't tell you exactly where it is, but have a look in the general vicinity of the playground) which has paths, lovely gardens and ornaments to interest the kids - look out for the outdoor dunny with the dunny can, motifs on the path and Japanese influences.
Around the playground there is a shelter with a line of seats, BBQs, shaded table and two unshaded tables. There are other tables and BBQs scattered about elsewhere.
There are buildings with historical items and lovely gardens to explore. A Farmers market is held on some days and a cafe serving Devonshire scones is on site (now closed). The complex is open from 10am to 4pm but the playground is accessible at all times.
