The Nook Jacksons Creek Walk (Sunbury)
The Nook is a magical place - from the scenic waterhole, walk the bends of Jacksons Creek while looking out for platypus, kangaroos and Bunjil on this 3km return walk.
Jacksons Creek winds through Sunbury in a series of S bends. The most spectacular and well-loved by locals is Jacksons Creek waterhole aka the Nook. This is a popular spot due to its stunning views and expansive lawns for picnicking and general enjoyment. Watch out for the introduced geese and ducks that can be bossy!
This walk follows the bends of the creek past lovely bushy habitat and the volcanic lava flows visible in the creek bed.
Jacksons Creek flows across Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung land and is known as 'biik wurrdha' meaning 'land of many' in Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung language.
Jacksons Creek has a wide range of local fauna including kangaroos, echidnas and a population of platypus. You can help the platypus by keeping dogs on leashes near Jacksons Creek, not using opera house style nets to catch yabbies, and by joining in with community planting efforts to protect the creek banks.
Along this walk, look out for whistling kites, brown falcons and Bunjil, the wedge-tailed eagle circling overhead.
Accessible public toilets are located at the start of this walk. The Nook has undercover barbeques, seating and drinking water available.
The Nook is 16 minutes' walk (1.3 km) from Sunbury Station.
