The Most Exciting Kids Activities in Melbourne
The kids may not yet be ready for skydiving or bungee jumping but there are plenty of exciting and adventurous kids activities in Melbourne which will get the heart rate pumping and the adrenaline racing of any child. Massive slides, vertical slides, water slides, rock climbing walls, skating, adventure tree courses, foam pits, flying foxes, laser skirmishes, circus tricks and go-karts are all on the adventure agenda.

One of our favourite places to get the adrenaline pouring through the body is Kids Space Play Centre in Hallam. The range of slides includes 7 metre high twister slides and a 6 metre high vertical drop. We've all lost a bit of skin on our elbows going down these slides.

Another Play Centre with exciting slides is Bigslide Indoor Sports Playground & Cafe in Knoxfield (the name says it all). For those who are vertically inclined Ace Space in Chirnside Park has a vertical slide (about 6 metres high).
If you are want an exciting slide with a difference then hang onto a bar above the 6.5 metre Look Out! Vertical Slide at A Maze'N Things on Phillip Island and let go. Whoosh.

Some places worth mentioning where the kids can slay the water slide dragon are Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC) in Bentleigh East (two water slides), Knox LeisureWorks in Boronia (80m indoor water slide), Casey Recreation & Aquatic Centre (RACE) in Cranbourne (two indoor water slides), Pines Forest Swimming Centre in Frankston North (Giant Outdoor water slide), WaterMarc Banyule in Greensborough (two water slides), Noble Park Aquatic Centre (Giant water slide) and Oak Park Aquatic Centre in Pascoe Vale (2 giant outdoor water slides).
You are 15 metres up a wall, your arms are aching, it's a LONG way down to the ground and the only way to the top is to use some small climbing holds. That is downright scary. Try a test of nerves at an indoor rock climbing centre. Clip 'N Climb in a number of location has lots of climbing challenges plus extra, amp it up experiences such as the Leap of Faith and Vertical Drop Slide. Other indoor roof climbing places with an array of walls and holds are the Hard Rock Climbing Centres in Nunawading and CBD, Bayside Rock Indoor Climbing in Carrum Downs and Cliffhanger Climbing Gym in Altona North. You can also climb for free at the Burnley Bouldering Wall which has three different climbing walls of increasing difficulty under shelter. How difficult can it be skooting across an area with boots and four small wheels attached underneath? Very difficult actually and a visit for a spot of roller skating is sure to be exciting. Try roller skating and roller blading at Caribbean Rollerama in Scoresby, Skaterz in Eltham or Skateworld Mordialloc.
The heart is sure to beat faster when you are high above the ground traversing across a range of obstacles strung up high in the trees. You could try Tree Surfing Australia at Arthurs Seat. There are a variety of bridges and high-wire obstacles which link to platforms in the trees at an elevation that varies between 5-12m. Extended zip-lines (or flying foxes) feature throughout the course and these run from the elevated tree-top platforms, fly through 50m of tree-top canopy and end safely at ground-level landing pads. Trees Adventure comprises five tree-top obstacle and flying fox courses that weave through the canopy of Glen Harrow heritage gardens. Be warned - you may be too occupied to totally enjoy the heritage gardens far below.

We dare you to go out on The Edge at Eureka Skydeck. It's a a glass cube which projects 3 metres out from the building - with you in it - suspended almost 300 metres above the ground!
Whether doing elegant turns like Torvill and Dean, speeding around in circles like Steven Bradbury or just doing your darndest to stay upright, ice skating can provide lots of excitement. Slip, slither or glide at O'Brien Group Arena in the Docklands or Olympic Ice Skating Centre in Oakleigh South.
Bounce along to a centre with such an expanse of trampolines that it would make a kangaroo envious. Check out Gravity Zone in Seaford, Bounce Inc in Glen Iris with over 100 interconnected trampolines, Rush HQ in Rowville or Latitude Melbourne in Heidelberg West. Imagine moving through a dark world with obstacles, mazes and tunnels and ramps. Then add the complication that people are trying to shoot you with a laser gun. If this scenario appeals then Laser Skirmish may be your source of excitement.
Crawl along (preferably wearing battle fatigues and covered in camouflage paint) to Le Mans Laserzone in Dandenong South which has a double storey arena and utilises state of the art laser vests and phasors. If there is still some fight left in you, try out Crown Kingpin at Southbank which has indoor laser skirmish. Tearing into a corner on a kart trying to pass someone on the inside is exciting. Go along for some hectic laps at Ace Karts in Sunshine, Le Mans Go Karts in Dandenong South or Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit Go Kart Track.
Ever fancied flying through the air with the greatest of ease? You don't need to run away and join the circus to realise your dream when there are plenty of places in Melbourne to learn circus elements such as trapeze. Leap over (keeping an eye open for the big elephant and contortionist near the door) to Little Devils Circus in Moorabbin or Westside Circus in Fitzroy.
Doing an aerial trick on your skateboard or BMX bike into a foam pit is just so cool. Check out indoor skate and BMX parks for plenty of action and fun, especially at The Shed in Cranbourne East.
There is no excuse for lack of excitement in a kid's life but be aware that there may be age or height restrictions for many of these activities.
