The Best Skateparks in Melbourne
The best skate parks in the Melbourne area are:
Box Hill Skatepark
The skatepark caters for skaters of all abilities and ages. It has a bit of everything with lovely flowing lines, a number of bowls, snake style course, street section, spines, ledges, ramps, quarters, rails, pyramids, rollovers and bumps. Everyone should be able to find something interesting here. There are lights for night skating and a basketball court beside the skatepark.
Frankston Skatepark
A street plaza-style course along with a mini capsule bowl and an enormous kidney bowl (3.4m in the deep section and 2.1m in the shallow section) which suits both both vert and street skaters. YMCA staff, who offer skateboarding lessons, are based at the skatepark most days during peak times, including after school, public holidays, weekends and school holidays. This place has consistently been ranked as one of the best skateparks in Melbourne for many years.
City (Riverslide) Skatepark
A large park with a city location in Alexandra Gardens on the south bank of the Yarra River with plenty of boxes, ledges, stairs, rails, blocks and quarters which is suitable for any ability level. Fully staffed by the YMCA with a skate shop, cafe and skate lessons.
The Shed Indoor Skatepark (Cranbourne East)
Fantastic huge indoor skate park with street, massive bowl, vert, resi and foam pit areas. The park caters for all levels and has a shop and kiosk as well as offering coaching sessions. Sessions are split by park users as The Shed does not have BMX riding the street course at the same time as skateboards, inline or scooters. There are special sessions just for skaters.
Noble Park Skatepark
A world class park which has a huge, deep vertical bowl with two levels on the base and pool coping, a big snake run and a street course which has lots of ledges, rails and a huge range of fun and challenging elements. The park has toilets, seats and water tap.
St Kilda Skatepark
The skatepark is set in a great location jutting out into the bay. All the elements are linked together to create a great flow. There are a range of bowls plus banks, stairs, hips, rollovers and various trannies. A highlight is the granite coping which is great for fast grinding. The park does get very busy and free parking can be tricky to find.
Knoxfield Skatepark
A great park with street area with ledges, rails and banks, bowls and a fantastic 2.5m hemisphere cup if you are brave enough.
Chelsea Skatepark
The skatepark has had a $1.4 million transformation including the addition of a youth precinct which has a multi-court play area for soccer and basketball, DJ table, timber climbing poles and a shelter with seating. The skatepark covers a large area and has tinted smooth concrete. There are many open bowls, bumps, spines, rollovers, banks, rails and quarters. The skatepark has sections for different levels of skill and gets very busy on weekends.
On the side is a metal vert mini ramp which is 2.4m high and 7.3m wide and has rollin area and coping.
Geelong Waterfront Skatepark
A great plaza style park with a cutting edge combination of art, technology and skating in a fantastic location overlooking the Geelong waterfront area.
