The Best Christmas Streets in Melbourne

Streets packed with houses with Christmas lights provide great value when searching for Christmas displays. We've put together a list of the best places where a wander down the street provides an enchanting experience.

Clydesdale Street, Box Hill (More than 25 houses have displays. Check out Santa in the outdoor dunny at #7, Santa stuck in the chimney at #22 and light projections on the ground at #30)

Lupin Court, Cranbourne North (Most houses have a display)

Warrawong Circuit, Doreen (Row of houses with displays near #22-28)

Nimary Court/Cherelle Court, Eltham North (A wonderland of lights, window displays, inflatables and lit characters. All the houses in these two courts, which are connected, participate and put a lot of effort into their displays. Park your car in St Helena Secondary College at 50 Wallowa Road)

Chestnut Avenue, Ferntree Gully (Most of the houses in the street have decorations with plenty of effort and thought expended on the displays. Plenty of lights, inflatables, characters and scenes. At #22 you can take a picture with Santa sitting on a seat)

The Boulevard, Ivanhoe (This is the most well known and famous Christmas lights area in Melbourne which has been happening for over half a century. The area attracts thousands of visitors and traffic jams and parking difficulties is par for the course. Added attractions include food carts selling food, coffee and ice-cream and performances from local musicians. The lights typically run from mid December 8:30pm to 11pm)

Dalray Crescent, Kurunjang (#23 has lovely large lit characters. #33 and #35 also have nice displays and there are more decorated houses in this area)

Grevillea Road, Langwarrin

Chippendall Street, Maddingley (A lot of houses on the street with beautifully lit up decorations. It's magical to drive through the street from one end to the other. Lights are on display from around 8.30pm to 11-11.30pm every night)

Andreas Court, Melton West (A fantastic court with lots of houses having great displays)

Giddens Road, Mernda (Six houses in street have nice displays)

Fellows Street, Mitcham (Over 40,000 fairy lights, a laser light display, huge inflatable Santa, laser countdown clock, Sleigh and Reindeer, snowman, gingerbread man and continuous Christmas Carols playing on Elf Radio at #35. Best parking is available at the Coles Supermarket on Victoria Street. Many houses in the street have displays and it is a lovely walk)

Alwyn Street, Mitcham (Lights and characters at #40. Many other houses and trees in the street have light displays. Ventnor Street is beautiful with lights dangling on all the trees and across the road)

Hordern Road, Mount Evelyn (Multiple houses in street)

Begonia Way, Narre Warren South (Large light display with inflatables at #2. Many other houses in the street also have displays)

Zander Avenue, Nunawading (About 12 houses have displays but the most spectacular is #18)

Kristina Court, Pakenham (#10 and #11 are great)

Licodia Drive, Pakenham (Most houses in the street have decorations. #7 has Santa and Rudolph in the hot tub. Also at #6 Scordia Place and #5 and #22 Belvedere Drive)

McGarvie Crescent, Pakenham (Many houses in the street have decorations)

Pomegranate Way, Pakenham (Houses #15, 23, 29 & 32 have nice displays)

Vaughan Court / Stanton Court, Pakenham (Fantastic area with all the houses in the court having brilliant displays)

Greendale Boulevard, Pakenham (#71, 83, 74 & 64 have really nice displays. Lots of lights on two houses at the end of Ramel Way)

Almond Grove, Pakenham (5 houses have nice displays)

Sandhurst Boulevard, Sandhurst

Cunningham/Leichhardt Court, Sandhurst

Carla Views, Sunbury (Fantastic location with four houses in the street having displays. #9 is amazing with a humungous spread of lights and characters. #8 also has a very large display. 8:30-11:30pm)

Empress Road, Surrey Hills (More than 40 houses in the street are decorated with lights and inflatables. The southern end is the best)

Edwin Road, Templestowe (The street has huge houses with equally huge displays. A little impersonal since the houses have big fences and gates. #1 is the best display)

Parrakeet Court, Taylors Lakes (Big display of lights and characters at #8. Also some smaller displays in the street)
