Talbot - Tunnel Hill Mine

Talbot - Tunnel Hill Mine

The Tunnel Hill Mine at Talbot is an amazing insight of our past golden era. The abandoned timbered gold mine tunnel is located on the outskirts of Talbot in the Tunnel Hill Bushland Reserve.

The abandoned mine was in use back in 1861, and briefly in 1917 and one of few in existence where the tunnel is open. Entry to the mine is prohibited, but you can gain a great view from the locked gates.

At the main entrance you can walk up and over the hill to the second entrance on the adjacent side. It is recommended not to stray from the marked tracks within the reserve.

How to get to the mine - From Talbot, drive along Gladstone Street until you see the "Tunnel Hill Bushland Reserve" sign on your left. Immediately after the sign, there is a dirt road which goes into into the bush. Follow this road, ignore the first turnoff to the left, and continue into the bush. Soon after you will come to a fork in the road. Turn left and follow the dirt road for a few more minutes until you reach the entrance to the mine.
