Strath Creek Historic and Natural Attractions Driving Trail
Strath Creek Historic and Natural Attractions Driving Trail includes the following attractions:
1. Strath Creek Township - The heart of the Strath Creek Valley since 1859. A picturesque town with many attractions including a walking trail and historical buildings.
2. Murchison Gap Lookout - See the 'Valley of 1,000 Hills' from this picturesque vantage point, where travellers can enjoy a picnic or take photos.
3. Strath Creek Falls - View this spectacular Waterfall that has been an inspiration to artists including Eugene von Guerard and William Delafield Cook.
4. No. 1 Campsite - During World War 2, huts were constructed at this location to house POW's.
5. Old Quartz Kilns - Two Quartz Kilns remain on Beaconsfield track. Used to separate gold from quartz these kilns are considered quite rare in Victoria's mining history.
6. Reedy Creek Township - The emergence of Reedy Creek centred around the discovery of gold in 1857. In 1861 the official population was said to be 320, however it is believed to have been as high as 2,000.
7. Reedy Creek Homestead - Reedy Creek Homestead was built around 1840. The historical homestead has been used for a range of events including political functions and annual garden parties.
