Stawell Historical Society and Museum

The Stawell Historical Society Museum and Research Centre is housed in the old Pleasant Creek Courthouse. The museum showcases the history of Stawell and surrounding district from the original discovery of gold in 1853 to the present day. There is an old mining cage from an early local gold mine out the front of the building.

The Museum houses a vast collection of items, photographs and records dating back to the origins of the town from pre The Gold Rush when the entire area was a large Pastoral Run know as "Concongella", to more recent years. The Courthouse was built in 1860 and serviced a large area of Western Victoria. It also served as the Gold Warden's Registry and later housed the Mounted Troopers before being used as a private home. The Stawell Historical Society became the Custodians in 1982.

Enjoy the experience of seeing our history in the museum and installations in the surrounding grounds.
