Stawell - Cato Park
Cato Park is a beautiful park in the centre of Stawell which offers a range of nature and recreational activities. The park surrounds idyllic Cato Lake with fountains and has an extensive playground, barbecues, picnic tables, seating, shelter, toilets, water taps, grassy areas a and walking trails which weave around the park.
A beautiful feature of the park is the "Remembering Stella Young" sculpture. The artwork commemorates Stella as a contemporary woman who made a significant contribution to Victoria and aims to continue her legacy, to challenge and educate society and its perception of disability, and to strive for ?a world where disability is not the exception, but the norm?.
A plaque beside the statue says:
Stella Young,
Comedian, Writer, Activist.
Born in Stawell 24th February 1982
Died in Melbourne 6th December 2014
"I am not a snowflake.
I am not a sweet, infantilising symbol of fragility and life.
I am a strong, fierce, flawed adult woman.
I plan to remain that way, in life and in death."
Central Park is next to Cato Park.
