Springvale Botanical Cemetery AJA Gardner Lawn Playground, Tenth Avenue, Springvale
The AJA Gardner Lawn is a lovely area where children have been laid to rest. Parents have added lots of colour and motion with toys like pinwheels which rotate in the wind.
Along the side are big colourful balloon sculptures, a cherub water feature and carousel building with unicorns on the wall.
Little messages from family and friends have been left on the inner walls of the building. Some of these include:
- I kicked the footy through the window and you told Dad it was you (from Martin, the brother of Peter Yankanovic)
- We used to fight all the time. I wish I could fight with you now (from Tony, best friend of Kevin Chow)
- I looked after you when Mummy was at work. You loved my chocolate cake so much! (from Nona of Francis Gianarelli)
- We played hide and seek and you were scared of the dark cupboard so I hid with you (from the Mummy of Jeremy Jones)
- I hated it when you always tagged along with me. Now I keep looking behind me, hoping to see you there (from Kate, the sister of Isabelle Napoleon)
- I would sit and just watch you sleep for hours (from the Mummy of Daisy Greco)
This area can be a place of sadness but it is also a place of celebration of short lived lives.
