Sorrento Park Beach (Sorrento)
Sorrento town sits on 20 m high bluffs, which outcrop at Policeman's Point. The point also divides the two Sorrento beaches (Sorrento Front beach and Sorrento Park beach).
The Park Beach is backed by Sorrento Park, which has picnic facilities, playground, a boat launching ramp and a number of private jetties and boat sheds. The 200 m long Sorrento Jetty runs out from Policeman's Point, with the Park Beach located on the western side.
The beach faces north-east and is sheltered from most waves, with the beach usually narrow and steep, and fronted by 100 to 150 m wide tidal flats. The water is deep inshore at high tide, while the flats are exposed at low tide.
Swimming - A relatively safe beach, with bathing best at mid to high tide. However, stay clear of the busy main jetty and boat ramp.
Sorrento Park beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 1/10 (Least hazardous). The beach is not patrolled.
Review:
There is free parking next to very nice playground and there is paid parking for boat trailers. Beneath the hill where the playground is located there is a boat ramp and rock sea-wall breakwater. The wall curves around to the west where there is a small beach in front of a private residence and a string of private jetties and boats moored in the water. This is not a very attractive spot to swim.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs on leash are permitted on the foreshore except between 9am and 7pm during Daylight Savings Period. At other times dogs are permitted on-leash.
