Principal of Sharon Lawrence Academy of Dance, Sharon Lawrence enjoyed a professional career in Musical Theatre before realising her true passion was to teach. Sharon has over 36 years experience teaching students who have got their start at Sharon Lawrence Academy of Dance. Successful students have gone on to work professionally here and overseas and many ex students working in the industry, come back to the studio to pass their knowledge on to the new generation of Sharon Lawrence Academy of Dance students.
Whether it is to professionally train for a career in dance, team work involvement, compete in solo work, or learn for fun and fitness, quality training is assured for every level. Sharon Lawrence Academy of Dance compete at the C.S.T.D Competitions, Goodwill Competitions and appear in an annual Showcase, sit examinations for Classical Ballet (R.A.D. syllabus), and appear in an annual Musical Theatre studio display.
Our fully equipped studios include sprung floors, ballet barres, mirrors, ducted cooling and heating, kitchen, dressing rooms with lockers.
Classes
Classical Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles, it is a great way for students to build technique, correcting posture and obtaining strength to enhance all forms of dance styles. Examinations are offered, they are not compulsory, although students wishing to sit examinations are encouraged to attend two ballet classes a week. Classical ballet is offered for all students from 2.5 years to advanced students.
Jazz
A very dynamic style of dance, jazz incorporates many different styles and requires great flexibility and power from its participants. Students perform one jazz item in our showcase and classes are available from 4 years up to advanced.
Tap
A very rhythmical form of dance with great combinations of sounds and visual display creating music with the feet. Available for all ages and each class performs in the annual showcase.
Hip Hop
This style is offered to students 6 years and over, it is a dance style often seen in music video clips on television and allows the student to learn the latest moves in dance. Each class performs a dynamic sharp entertaining routine on our showcase and proves every year to be one of our most popular styles for all age groups.
Contemporary Dance
The exploration of the total movement potential of the body. It differs from commercial or competitive dance in that it is not bound by set standards as well as defined styles such as ballet. Instead, it seeks to express a personalized vision, often through experimentation and collaboration for the development of new, more individualized approaches to the moving body and choreographic possibilities. Available for students 8 years and over. All classes perform on the annual showcase.
Singing
Private and group singing lessons are available along with Musical Theatre lessons which are very popular due to the students being able to fuse singing, acting and dance styles in the one class. Classes are offered in Private, group Musical Theatre lessons from age 6 years. All group classes perform a Musical Theatre item on the annual Showcase and all private singing students perform solos at the Studio Performance.
