Seaholme Beach
Seaholme Beach is backed by a large foreshore reserve and has very low energy waves.
The Altona Coastal Park lies at the mouth of Kororoit Creek and is the northern end of the beach. Most of the beach is fronted by 500 m wide sand flats, while the backing shoreline is composed of marsh and patches of sand. Only toward the southern end of the park, in the P.A. Burns Reserve, does a continuous beach form, still fronted by 300 to 400 m wide flats.
The reserve terminates at an open, 30 m wide drainage easement, on the other side of which is Cresser Park. The park contains a large car park, boat ramp, yacht club, a small jetty and a playground.
The narrow beach alternates with seawalls, while the tidal flats deepen off Cresser Park and are covered by seagrass, with numerous boats moored off the beach.
Due to the wide sand flats, swimming is only possible at high tide, and even then better suited for wading than swimming.
The beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 1/10 (Least hazardous).
Review:
The beach stretches for a long way from the Altona Coastal Park in the north to the south past P.A. Burns Reserve (which is an off-leash dog park), Altona Boat Ramp, Altona Yacht Club and ends near Cresser Park which has a playground.
The beach is quite narrow and generally unattractive with lots of broken shells and plenty of sea-weed scattered about the foreshore. When the tide is out there are wide flats and the water is not suited to swimming, only wading.
There is a foreshore trail which runs beside the beach.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs must be on leash on the beach. P.A. Burns Reserve is an off-leash dog park.
