Westerfield Drive Reserve Playground, Westerfield Drive, Notting Hill
A brilliantly conceived playground for younger kids which is located next to the Notting Hill Neighbourhood House. Enter the fully fenced playground area, which wraps around the building, through an ornate gate with a welcome bell on top.
At the centre of a series of paths is a small traditional play structure with steps, ladder, shop front, tic-tac-toe, fireman's pole and wave slide. Around the base is a birds nest swing, in-ground trampoline, three jumping tyres which make different sounds when you jump on them and some colourful optical illusion flowers.
Explore a path on the side to find a beautiful ceramic bird, logs with a display of the life cycle of a dragonfly and a grasshopper, xylophone, superbly carved wooden table and seats, chess board, totem poles and water play area with a hand pump and wooden water channel.
A highlight is a multi-storey Bee Hotel. You can also observe science in action by watching a spiral in motion for 30 seconds and then looking at a ladybird and seeing what happens to the ladybird. This area has lots of toys to play with, shaded table, unshaded seats and water tap.
A path for bikes leads downhill past a vertical community garden into a grassy area with two swings and two more tables under some big shady trees. A highlight of this area is a large colourful mural co-designed by artist Hayden Dewar and First Nations artist, Ashleigh Pugh.
During the week, the Neighbourhood House will be open and you can use the toilets.
