Rubicon - Rubicon Falls

Rubicon - Rubicon Falls

Rubicon Falls is 40 metres high and sits around 300m above the Rubicon Power Station in the Blue Ranges. Viewing is restricted to the elevated roadside due to the harsh inaccessible terrain.

The Falls is best after heavy rain, as a portion of water is constantly diverted from the Falls Dam located above the Falls to the Power Station below the Falls.

Vehicle access to the Falls is via four wheel drive only and seasonal road closures (track is closed between June and November) need to be taken into account before travelling. You can access the Falls in winter by parking at the Rubicon Power Station and walking the track to the Falls. The track is of easy grade and takes around 60 minutes each way.

Directions:
1. Travel to the township of Thornton.
2. Travel south along Taggerty Thornton Road for 3 km to Rubicon Road.
3. Turn east into Rubicon Road and travel for 7.7 km to the bridge over the Rubicon River.
4. Continue straight ahead (do not cross the river) for 300 metres to the Rubicon Power Station (Haulage).
5. Continue past the Power Station on Rubicon Road (4WD only) for 3.7 km to the Rubicon Falls (200m past the Falls Power Station and 500m before the Rubicon Falls Dam).
