Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (St Kilda)
Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, once St Kilda Yacht Club, is situated in the heart of vibrant St Kilda and only twenty minutes from Melbourne's CBD.
With the St Kilda Pier and Boardwalk on our front steps, the Squadron is beautifully positioned with all St Kilda has to offer. Our floating marina features 250-pens to host your boat.
We are the friendliest club on the bay. You can come find out for yourself by getting your feet wet with our training courses. If you're keen on an adventure on Port Phillip, you can use a Sail Pass and become a member for a day. With Sail Pass, we'll put you on a friendly boat and give you the experience of racing a yacht.
Learn to Sail at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron
Sailing and boating in its many forms is an enjoyable pastime with something for everyone. It can be a relaxing or a technical endeavour, depending on how you approach it. As an accredited Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Centre we can provide you with the theoretical knowledge and practical experience to enjoy all aspects of sailing and boating in a safe and fun way.
Our on water courses cover many aspects of boating, including dinghy and keelboat sailing, powerboat tuition and the more technical aspects of sailboat racing.
Shore-based training covers topics such as navigation, safety, marine radio, weather forecasting and passage planning.
Tackers (Kids 7-12)
For children 7 - 12 years of age we operate a 'Tackers' program initially at our Australian Sailing partner sailing school 'The Boatshed' at Albert Park Lake for Tackers 1 & 2 before progressing to Tackers 3 here at RMYS and the more challenging coastal environment. We also provide a further coaching opportunity in our Tackers Squad.
OutThere (Teens 12-17)
For teenagers, the accredited OutThere Sailing program introduces participants to all aspects of sailing and boating in a fun, educational and broad-based way. The participants can then make an informed decision about what pathway is for them and join our Junior development squad or follow the Australian Sailing keelboat pathway.
Adult Dinghy and Keelboat (18+)
The keelboat pathway provides participants with the knowledge and experience to successfully crew and skipper keelboats with cruising or racing formats and covers the more technical areas of spinnaker use and racing tactics.
Adult dinghy courses are popular and provide seat of your pants sailing tuition in an enjoyable and fast paced format.
