Roy Dore Reserve Playground, Dyson Road, Carrum
Ahoy me hearties, be ready to walk the plank on this massive pirate ship under sail (under shade sails that is).
A wonderful play structure with two long wave slides and a mermaid on the bow. Only real pirates get to go down the slides since there is no easy route up to the top deck. One route is a slanting rope ladder, another is via steps and then a traverse of a long high net and the last is via an enclosed ladder. The ship has there cannons which have shot cannon balls into the large neighbouring sandpit which is shaded and has a mechanical digger. The ship structure also has cubby areas, tic-tac-toe panel with animal shapes, distorting mirrors, balance beam walkways, find the pirates treasure maze panel and big climbing walls. There is a gangplank for any mutineers.
Nearby is a small boat shaped structure with steering wheel, steps and wave slide. There is a birds nest swing, four swings (one with a harness), surfboard springer, soft dolphin to climb on, stand-on spinner and a circular donut which revolves around.
A dry watercourse area has a bridge with troll guarding it, big wooden toadstools and purple octopus. Nearby is a curved seat for resting under a tree, shelter with BBQ and table, water tap and double sided tennis wall.
In one corner is an outdoor gym with eight items of equipment, shelter with two tables and BBQ plus water tap. Next to an oval. The toilets are a long walk across the oval, especially for pirates busy with looting and mayhem (good news is that toilets have now been built at the playground). This is a playground which adults and kids will have a great time!
