Rattray Reserve Dog Off Leash Area (Montmorency)

A lightly wooded bushland reserve. After an initial small area of low cut grass, a gravel road leads up the hill through a wooded area with longer grass. There a lots of birds in the reserve and wildflowers in Spring. At the top of the hill the grass thins out and there is a fence next to a row of houses. Three sides of the reserve are surrounded by houses. There is no water tap or bin.

Rattray reserve is the most floristically rich reserve in the Montmorency bushland system. It hosts several remnant Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora) and River Red-gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis), trees with large gnarled hollows, perfect habitat for indigenous birds, insects and arboreal mammals. Rattray Reserve is a key site for a richly diverse understorey vegetation layer including species such as the rare and threatened Matted Flax Lily (Dianella amoena), the Pale-flower Crane's bill (Geranium species 3) and the regionally significant Blue grass lily (Caesia calliantha).
