Lessons
Child Tuition
We have suitable sized ponies to enable us to start teaching children from 5 years of age right through to teenagers. Lessons are held after school and over the weekend.
Our aim is to teach children safety, confidence, independence, communication skills and to develop a great love for horses.
Beginner Rider - New riders start with private lessons for approximately one term. The private lessons consist of learning safety around ponies, grooming, saddling and riding. We teach children to have basic horse skills prior to joining our term group classes as this encourages children to be confident in a group environment as well as having control over their pony. Private lessons can be booked for either half or one hour.
Experienced Rider - An assessment lesson will allow us to correct previous riding and allow us to assess the riders safety and horse knowledge so we can suggest a group lesson that is suitable. During group lessons riders learn all aspects of horse riding which includes dressage, jumping and outdoor riding. Group lessons are booked over a school term and are available weekly or fortnightly.
Adult Tuition
Beginner Rider - Tuition is tailored to suit each individual. Lessons are conducted on the lunge in a 1-hour private session. Riders will learn balance through understanding the movement of the horse, confidence through basic communication with the horse and control by learning the aids to halt, move forward and turn. All riders learn basic safety around horses as well as grooming and saddling.
Experienced Rider - Private and group lessons are available for riders with experience. A private lesson is required to assess the rider's standard of knowledge. Riders can improve their knowledge and skills in all disciplines of dressage, jumping and outdoor riding on one of our trained horses, or you can bring your own. Lunging, floating, undoing bad habits and gear fitting is all part of the owner training sessions.
Group Lessons - Morning, evening and weekend classes are available for riders who wish to join a group. The group lessons are educational, fun and challenging and will keep you fit. They are a great way to socialise with like-minded people in a friendly and relaxed environment.
Holiday Program
Enjoy your holidays by coming to the Ranges Equestrian centre to ride a horse. There are different programs you can do with different ages in each program. Our school holiday programs are extremely popular and lots of fun!
Children will be introduced to ponies in a safe environment with qualified and trained staff. We have a wide range of suitable and well-mannered ponies to suit your child and our staff and volunteers will make the day an unforgettable experience.
Whether it's wet, cold or hot, riding is mostly indoors and parents and guardians will be comfortable watching and cheering on the kids in our viewing room.
Beginner Riders - Children with little or no experience, between the ages of 5 and 12, can book in for a 3 hour program in the morning. Riders will learn basic safety on and around ponies, how to walk, trot, turn and stop. An obstacle course and laneway ride is the most popular part of the program.
Experienced Riders - Children with some riding experience will be able to book in for the 6 hour program. Riders learn safety on and around ponies, grooming, plaiting and saddling. The riding lessons will be based on experience and includes indoor and outdoor riding as well as jumping. The kids love to hop on our Shetlands, Pee Wee and Lucy Lou for a bare-back ride.
