Ranelagh Beach (Mount Eliza)

Ranelagh Beach (Mount Eliza)

Ranelagh Beach is a difficult to find beach used mainly by locals and the boat owners.

Ranelagh Beach is surrounded by bluffs and houses, with the best public access via a path from Earimil Drive to the south. The beach is 450 m long, with numerous boat sheds backing the beach.

Swimming - Relatively safe during low waves and at high tide. However, watch the rocks and reefs at low tide and rips when waves are breaking.

Ranelagh beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 2/10 (Least hazardous).

Review:

There is an area to park the car at the north end of Earimil Drive. A path with a lot of steps (42) leads down to the beach from the top of the cliff. Just before you get to the beach, on the right is a path which leads to a narrow bridge across Earimil Creek composed of a single plank of wood. It's fun to test your balance since the consequences of falling off aren't too severe. This route can also be used to get past the creek which runs into the bay, although it is a bit steep and slippery along this path.

There is a small rocky point at the south end of the beach and a big headland at the north end. In between is a 450m long sandy beach with about 40 colourful beach huts to brighten the day, although they are not as beautifully painted as those at Brighton beach.

At the northern end is a boat launching slip way used by the Mt Eliza Ranelagh Club. Around here there were rocks sticking out of the water and the beach is covered by a lot of rocks and stones. The northern end also has a storm drain pipe entering the water. A track in this area leads up to a toilet.

It can be tiring climbing back up the steps after an energetic day at the beach.
