A beautifully crafted playground with a theme of "The Frog Princes" and you don't need to kiss any frogs to play here (unless you want to).

The playground has two levels and a series of walkways and walls separate the two areas. The walls, which are adorned with colourful murals, have climbing wall sections, tunnel, slope with climbing holds to help you get up, sloping rope net bridge and wooden climbing walls. At the end are dual wave slides, rope tunnel, hanging disks and fireman's pole. On the ground is a four-square court.

The area of the playground for younger kids is set under huge beautiful leafy trees and has a big green frog climbing frame beside three huge crowns (pick either a gold, silver or bronze crown).

A soft blue path leads under a curved wooden playground structure with short steep slide, steps and climbing walls. Follow the path to a big log car with steering wheel, past soft mounds and big balls sitting above the ground at different heights. This shaded area also has another log car, elevated simple maze with metal ball on a pole, see-saw and an unusual musical instrument.

Around the edge of this area is a metal drum with handle to make noises, percussion pipes, three standard swings, an expression swing where child and parent sit opposite each other and a wooden climbing area with gentle slopes. On the edge of the lower area is a shelter with table and BBQs, three shelters with a table and toilets.

On the top level is a huge atom shaped rope climbing frame and pipe parkour area, all-abilities spinning carousel, beautiful carved leaf seat and a wonderful ball with a handle to turn to hear songs which echo across the playground.

On the side is a basketball / netball court, a simple skate park and huge grassy area.

There are three picnic shelters located at Princes Park:
  • Maple Street rotunda - located off Maple Street, close to the bowls club. This rotunda has one picnic table with BBQ facilities located next to the rotunda.
  • Birch Street rotunda - located off Birch Street, a large rotunda with two picnic tables. There are no BBQ facilities next to this rotunda.
  • Beech Street rotunda - located closest to the carpark off Beech Street and basketball ring. There is one picnic table with BBQ facilities located next to the rotunda.
In 1923 part of the local area became known as Shilabeer's Paddock, which acted as a sandpit and refuse disposal area. It was later developed into around 10 hectares of parkland - the origins of what we now call Princes Park.

Access for Dogs:

  • All sportsgrounds at Princes Park are off-leash areas. Please respect the shared use of these sportsgrounds by ensuring that dogs are on-leash within 20m of a sporting activity.
  • The western end of Princes Park is an on-leash area. This on-leash area includes the playground, rotunda, picnic area, car parks and open space along Hawthorn Road.
