Princes Park Drive Playground, Carlton North

The centre piece of the playground is a fun quirky climbing structure which wouldn't be out of place in a Dr Seuss book. It has an angled house with wooden slats on the outside and a jumble of climbing ropes inside. You can reach a long curving set of parallel pipes to slide down in a straddle position or go across a jumpy rubber walkway and come down a metal slide. At the slide end there is also a rope ladder net and suspended ladder for access.
There is a pentagonal frame with five swing seats to have groups swings in addition to a set of standard swings and a birds nest swing. Kids who like swings are well catered for, At the other end of the playground is a large sandpit with four play structures encompassing steps, ladders, slides, tunnels, scoops and sand play equipment. A large slanted disk which spins around is fun and it is very difficult to stay on when the speed ramps up. Centrifugal force - it's powerful.
The whole playground area is surrounded by large rocks to give a more natural feel and there are some huge leave shaped seats in the middle. Around the playground are more unshaded seats, toilets and a water tap. Slightly away from the playground is an area with BBQs and four unshaded tables. Located next to oval and grassy area. Paid parking during the week.
