Portland Beach Guide

There are a number of wonderful beaches in the Portland and surrounding region which provide a range of opportunities from families looking for safe fun sea swimming and beach adventure for the children to beaches that suit those after the perfect wave or launch for small boats and jet ski's.

Bridgewater

Notes: Bridgewater beach offers a fantastic family friendly beach with access to a kiosk and patrolled beaches form Christmas to Easter. There are numerous activities available at the beach with good access for jet skiing, wind surfing and boating. For families the rock pools are fascinating and educational with good snorkelling, swimming and shell collecting that will fill the hours with fun for all ages.

Bridgewater Lakes

Crumpets

Dutton Way

Activities: Fishing, Motor Boat, Snorkelling, Swimming, Wind Surfing, Kiosk

Notes: Dutton Way is a great family option with gentle sloped beaches great for the family. Fishing, snorkelling and windsurfing are all popular activities and a kiosk and toilets are available. This beach is not patrolled.

Henty

Activities: Jet Ski, Swimming, Wind Surfing, Yachting
Facilities: Toilets
Notes: A well located central beach with access to good grassed areas. Best for swimming and snorkelling. The close proximity to the town centre makes this beach a wonderful option as a day of enjoyment with cafes, take away food and toilets all close. The swimming and water sports pontoon located off Henty Beach is open all year round for all to use.

Maritime Beach

Notes: A well located central beach with access to good grassed areas. Best for swimming and snorkelling. The close proximity to the town centre makes this beach a wonderful option as a day of enjoyment with cafes, take away food and toilets all close.

Maritime Lagoon

Activities: Snorkelling, Swimming
Facilities: Toilets

Murrell's

Activities: Fishing, Rock Pools, Shell Collecting, Surfing

Narrawong

Activities: Family, Fishing, Swimming, Surfing
Facilities: Toilets
Notes: Narrawong Beach offers two good opportunities for swimming for the families with young children. The Surry River Mouth is a good choice. Kids are fascinated by the small fish and with no waves or currents the warm water of the river is a fun and safe option. Swimming and surfing are also available at the beach which is patrolled during the summer holidays.

Notes: Shelly beach is located at Cape Bridgewater and is a wonderful option for a beach walk with shell collecting and swimming. Both beaches are subject to strong rips at times and neither of these beaches are patrolled.

Watertower

White's

Activities: Fishing, Rock Pools, Shell Collecting, Surfing
Notes: White's beach is located at Cape Bridgewater and is a wonderful option for a beach walk with shell collecting and swimming. Both beaches are subject to strong rips at times and neither of these beaches are patrolled.

Access for Dogs on Portland Beaches:

Dogs are permitted off-leash on all Portland beaches except for the following restrictions:

Dogs are permitted on-leash at Nuns Beach from 9am to 6pm between 1st December and Easter Monday and off-lead at all other times.
Dogs are permitted on-leash at all times on the beach and foreshore between Portland Yacht Club and Lee Breakwater
Dogs must not enter the Henty Beach playgrounds, be off-leash or stray on to the beach or grassed area along Henty Beach. These areas are prohibited for dogs
Dogs can be on-leash on the new connecting pathways along the Portland Foreshore and Henty Beach area.
Dogs are prohibited at all times from all beaches in Cape Nelson State Park and Discovery Bay Coastal Park
