Parkdale Beach
Parkdale Beach is located between Mordialloc and Mentone Beaches and 1 km south of the Parkdale railway station. Beach Road runs along the top of the bluff that backs the beach, the road providing most of the parking for the 1.5 km long beach.
There is a 10 m high bluff, with a bike and walking path running along the base of the bluff. This path is part of the seawall, built in the 1960s to protect the eroding bluff. Also a small groyne is located just south of the club, while rocks are exposed to the north, providing a 'pocket' of sand.
The Parkdale Yacht Club is located 400 m north of the rocks.
Swimming - Avoid the rocky areas, as deeper rip holes form next to the rocks and reefs; stay on the shallower, attached bars.
Note: The site of the former Parkdale Surf Life Saving Club is now occupied by the Parkdale Beach Cafe & Kiosk
Review:
Opposite Parkers Road is Parkdale Beach Cafe and Kiosk with outdoor seats and tables. Next to the cafe are public toilets. In front of the cafe is a grassy area elevated above the beach with water tap, two tables and BBQs. To the north is the Parkdale War Memorial. Past the memorial are two more tables in a grassy area.
From below the cafe there is a sandy beach with a wall of rocks and the back of the beach and a concrete path running along at the back of the beach. In sections the beach narrows. Near the cafe there were a lot of rocks in the water. The beach continues to the Parkdale Yacht Club building where the beach narrows and there are also a lot of rocks in the water. 100m past the Yacht Club there is a structure with a pipe underneath. From this point to the north the beach doubles in width and becomes very wide. This beach stretches to the north for a long way with the concrete walking path beside it.
There is some limited parking along Beach Road. Parking is free around the beach area.
Note: The closest patrolled beach is Mordialloc beach, one km away.
