Packer Park Playground, Leila Road, Carnegie
Great with lots of thought given to the design. It has a frog theme. Vast expanse of colourful ramps joined by walkways, chain bridges and various ladders. Scattered amongst the structure are climbing mats, fireman's pole, cubbies, tunnels, mirrors, variety of games, tunnel slide, steps, scrambling walls, disks on vertical pole and curved slide. Four springers, plenty of colourful tables and mushroom seats, huge gecko to scramble over, family size see-saw (unless you happen to have quintuplets), swings and a huge rope structure which supports three large metals disks and large wooden snake which makes sounds as you wall along it.
There is a wetland area with ponds to explore next to the playground. Some shade afforded by a large gum tree in the middle of the playground. BBQs, tables under shelter, water tap, rubbish bins and toilets. Also basketball ring, tennis practice wall, synthetic surfaced velodrome and golf practice net (birdie cages) in the general area.
The west end of the park features a combination of the two outdoor bowling sports, lawn bowls and bocce. It is surrounded by tree plantings associated with the countries in which each of the bowling forms originate. This theme has a strong link with the site's historic and former use as a bowling club. The area provides a free to use bowling area that does not need to be booked and is freely available to the community. There is also an outdoor gym under shade sails here.
Access for Dogs:
- The open space areas located north of the sports ground and east of the creek are both off-leash areas.
