Railway Garden
The beautiful Railway Garden was established in October 2020 and is thriving under the care of our fabulous gardening teams. We have friendly groups gardening on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. The work is light and pleasant and is usually followed by a lovely morning tea.
The garden and adjacent Bocce court are for everyone to enjoy, and members of the public are welcome to pick vegetables and herbs. There are regular information sessions on gardening practices such as pruning, composting, propagation and planting - and gardeners enjoy taking part in Railway House and community events throughout the year.
Services
Battery and e-waste Recycling
Do your bit for the planet and bring in your batteries and small e-waste ((cameras, phones, small household appliances, chargers etc)) to Railway House where they'll be collected by the City of Yarra for recycling!
Rescued Food Market
The cost of living is ever-increasing yet many supermarkets and shops throw food away on a daily basis. On Wednesdays from 10:30 AM come along to Railway House (alternate weeks this is across the road at the housing estate) and stock up on rescued food!
We usually have day-old bakery items, fruit, vegetables and sometimes dairy and pantry items. Please BYO bag.
Book Swap
Most people have a collection of already-read books gathering dust and taking up space on their shelves. Unless a book is exceptional, chances are you won't read it again. So why not bring your quality used books to Railway House, and peruse our Book Swap trolley for something to borrow?
Composting
We are unable to take any food scraps for compost currently, but please watch this space for updates.
Photocopying & Printing
Printing, scanning and photocopying services available for a small donation of 10c per page.
Internet Access & Computer Use
Free WiFi and computer use from 9:30 to 5:00, Monday through Thursday and from 9:30 to 1:30 on Fridays.
Bread Tag Recycling
Bring in your plastic bread tags and they will be recycled locally to raise funds to buy wheelchairs for disadvantaged people, mostly in South Africa.
