Noojee - Toorongo and Amphitheatre Waterfalls
Amphitheatre Falls and Toorongo Falls can be seen as part of a 2.2km loop walk in the Toorongo Falls Reserve. Amphitheatre Falls is less than 5m high and has a viewing deck that juts out about the water. Toorongo Falls is much larger waterfall than Amphitheatre Falls and there is a viewing platform for the upper part of the waterfall. Amphitheatre Falls, has a swimming hole at the top.
Review:
To get to the falls, drive 3.7km east of Noojee and turn off onto Toorongo Valley Road. After 6.4km a roughish road reaches the parking area for the falls. The route is signposted. At the parking area are toilets and six tables in an elevated position overlooking the car park area.
You can visit either of the falls but the best option is to make a circuit and take in both falls. From the car park you follow the creek up through the rainforest and tree ferns to Toorongo Falls, then it is quite flat to the Amphitheatre Falls and downhill back to the car park. Toorongo Falls is a good size with multiple streams running down a cliff. Amphitheatre Falls has a metal observation platform above the water to give a good view of the waterfall down the face of a big rock. The track can be a little slippery. The circuit took us about one hour. We saw a lyrebird scratching in the vegetation just away from the track.
