Newells Paddock Wetlands Reserve (Footscray)
Newells Paddock is a large open space near the Maribyrnong River with beautiful wetlands which provide habitat for bird life. Paths through the space connect to the Maribyrnong River Trail. There are also barbecue and picnic facilities.
Review:
The western end has grassy areas with soccer nets, basketball / netball court, water tap, shelter with two tables and BBQs, seats and bins. A gate leads to the conservation area which has extensive areas of water which are home to a number of waterbirds.
During the summer months, beware of snakes around the wetlands area.
A short walk to the south along the Maribyrnong River Trail leads to the impressive Heavenly Queen Temple.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs are allowed on leash in the main part of the park on the western side but are prohibited from the wildlife conservation area at the eastern end.
