Myrrhee - Brookfield Maze
Brookfield Maze is one of the largest hedge mazes in Australia. A traditional puzzle maze, the object being to find the centre where there is a viewing platform. Along the way, hunt for hidden koalas and four number clues which add up to the number of trees used to plant the maze.
Brookfield's extensive landscaped gardens include an ancient labyrinth, bocce, pentanque piste, giant chess, checkers and a creek walk.

Review:
We were taking the scenic route back to Melbourne along the King Valley from Wangaratta via Mansfield and drove past Brookfield Maze. Our family loves to get lost in a maze (and love to get out of a maze even more) and so this was a destination to explore. We found a GEM.
Not only does it have an excellent maze with high, well-maintained hedge walls made from more than 1000 Leighton Green conifer trees, but it is set in beautifully landscaped gardens which are a joy to wander around. To add interest there are other activities such as a labyrinth, bocce, pentanque, giant chess (under a shade sail), checkers and a creek walk along Fifteen Mile Creek.
The Knidos labyrinth pattern was originally discovered engraved on a block of black marble west of the Corinthian Temple in the ancient Hellenic City of Knidos in the southwest of Turkey. Other inscriptions on the marble allow it to be dated to the 6th or 7th centuries AD, making it one of the earliest known labyrinths. A labyrinth is an ancient walking meditational tool, it is thought to enhance right brain activity, whereas mazes are a left brain puzzle. You follow the brick path that leads to the midpoint and then return to the beginning.
Look out for the fun metal sculptures in the garden. There is a cafe serving a good variety of meals and snacks which has outdoor and indoor seating areas. The cafe is open for lunch, morning and afternoon tea and coffee on both Saturday and Sunday.
The entry price is reasonable and good value considering the range of activities available. The maze is located in a beautiful but remote area and will require a little bit of planning to get there. Also be careful about opening times since they are not open every day.
