Myrniong - Pykes Creek Reservoir
Pykes Creek Reservoir is located west of Melbourne near Ballan. It is a popular destination for activities including picnics, swimming, boating, jet skiing, fishing, birdwatching and walking.
Anglers will enjoy the challenge of hooking brown trout which tend to grow up to about 1.5 kilograms in the reservoir. Small redfin are also in abundance.
Nature-lovers and birdwatchers will enjoy walking along the reservoir to see the range and beauty of wildlife on offer. Keep an eye out for birds including the wedge-tailed eagle, great egret and red-necked stint, as well as frogs, kangaroos, wombats, sugar gliders, snakes and lizards. Plant life is also in abundance with a large range of native trees and grasses surrounding the reservoir.
There is a designated swimming area, Swimmer's Cove, which has water with low visibility and some submerged logs so some care needs to be taken.
Facilities include BBQ areas, toilets, picnic tables and a playground. Those participating in water activities will enjoy the convenience of a boat ramp for launching their boat, kayak or jet ski however are encouraged to check water levels prior to visiting the Pykes Creek.
Located on a tributary of the Werribee River, Pykes Creek Reservoir provides water for use within the Bacchus Marsh and Werribee Irrigation Districts.
