Murchison Street Play Space, Marysville
Beautifully crafted play space set beside a lovely creek. The playground area is crossed by concrete paths and has a range of fun elements. There is a giant blue-tongue lizard, huge pyramid rope climbing frame, stand-on carousel, a square of elevated disks which you scamper across to become "king of the castle" in the centre, four swings (one with harness), hillock with metal slide, range of music/noise making instruments, elevated sandpit where you can dig for dinosaur bones and a super water play area with an auger to draw up water.
The main play area has a corner with BBQs, unshaded tables and water tap. Over the bridge is a nice flying fox with two lanes and a disk to sit on and a metal slide.
There is a pond with ducks. Gallipoli Lake is a small man-made lake that is regularly stocked with fish, for those who love to fish. There are two small jetties which enable you to walk out on, or to fish from. An easy grade walking path around the lake allows you to view the lake from all angels, while enjoying the flora and fauna.
There are unshaded tables and seats are scattered about. Toilets and water tap. Some more equipment in would really finish off the playground area.
At the other end of the pond is some more traditional equipment. The structure has a curved slide, climbing mat wall, tic-tac-toe, fireman's pole, block steps, steering wheel and telescope. Swings. Large grassy area with a huge shelter with tables and BBQs. Next to an oval.
Across the creek from the playground on another bridge is a display of a water wheel. Up to 1955 this water wheel generated power for the Bartons and the Crossways. It was restored by the Lions (Marysville & District) Club in conjunction with the Marysville Tourist Association in 1973.
During the summer months riverside paddling is a great way to keep cool. Located near to popular cafes, opposite the Marysville Old Style Lolly Shop, and not too far from Bruno's Sculpture Gardens (another great spot to take kids). Well worth a day trip!
