Mullum Mullum Creek Trail Walk (Ringwood - Croydon)
This 5.8km one way historical and nature based walk features an interpretive trail, bushland and Mullum Mullum Creek.
The walk starts at Mullum Mullum Reserve car park and there are refreshments available at Eastland Shopping Centre and Burnt Bridge Shops.
Route Description:
Starting from Mullum Mullum Reserve car park, follow the path past the pavilion and lower oval to the first Cultural Heritage Trail sign incorporating carvings of native fauna. You can take the path to the left, which is steeper, or take the right fork beside the oval to reach the creek.
The interpretive signs are located on both sides of the creek between the suspension bridge (Rupert Street) and bridge with steps (Leonard Street). The garden beds incorporate some of the native plants used by local indigenous people for food and utensils. The rock circle is a lovely spot to stop and listen to the creek and birds.
You can walk towards Ringwood Town Centre on the south side of the creek, passing the old quarry site at Reserve Road. You can head to Ringwood Lake (toilet and picnic facilities) via Suda Avenue or continue through the underpass and go along Larissa Avenue. Eastland Shopping Centre and Ringwood Station are near Warrandyte Road.
Heading northeast from Mullum Mullum Reserve the Trail follows the twists and turns of the creek, past several areas that are being revegetated by Council and the local bushcare group. Stands of large pine trees are a reminder of the early European orchardists.
After crossing Oban Road, the Trail is sealed all the way to Highland Avenue. At Peter Vergers Reserve there are accessible toilets and a car park, and at Douglas Maggs Reserve there is a playground off Strathfield Parade. Council and Melbourne Water are replacing willow trees with native trees and plants to improve the creek habitat.
The Trail ends at Highland Avenue with access along quiet streets to Lipscombe Park (toilets, playground, shelter) and the McAdam Square Shops (1 km).
